The scheme has a total outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore.
₹1,36,378 crore is earmarked for intra-state transmission systems.
₹50,000 crore is allocated for 50 GWh of battery energy storage.
Central Financial Support under the scheme is ₹54,082 crore.
The initiative aims to facilitate evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy.
Stiell said stronger electricity grids and battery-storage infrastructure could support employment in manufacturing, construction and the energy-storage sector as the global transition towards renewable energy and clean technologies continues.
The Union Cabinet approved GEC-III on September 30, 2026. The scheme has a total outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore, comprising ₹1,36,378 crore for intra-state transmission systems and ₹50,000 crore for 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The scheme includes ₹54,082 crore in Central Financial Support.
GEC-III is designed to facilitate the evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy across states and Union Territories. It is targeted for completion by FY 2032-33 and is intended to improve grid integration, address renewable-energy intermittency and strengthen the country's power infrastructure.
