Uttar Pradesh is dealing with widespread disruption after an intense spell of rain and storms affected large parts of the state over the past three days.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner’s office, 56 people died and 46 were injured in rain- and storm-related incidents between September 25 and the morning of September 27. The authorities also reported 107 animal deaths and damage to 1,021 houses.

The state recorded 66.5 mm of rainfall between September 25 and September 27 morning, compared with a normal rainfall of 7.6 mm for the period, representing 775% excess rainfall. Officials said 56 of Uttar Pradesh’s 75 districts recorded large excess rainfall.
Sitapur reported the highest number of deaths at seven. Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur recorded five deaths each, while Ayodhya and Gorakhpur reported four fatalities each. Hardoi recorded the highest number of injuries at seven.
Property damage was also reported across multiple districts. Hardoi recorded the highest number of damaged houses at 272, followed by Sitapur with 108, Chandauli with 75, Auraiya with 60 and Gonda with 54.
