Air India and Air India Express have extended the temporary suspension of flights connecting India with three major Saudi Arabian cities until October 24, 2026, as security concerns continue to affect air travel in West Asia.
The suspension covers flights to and from Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam. The airlines said the decision was taken in view of the prevailing regional situation, with passenger and crew safety remaining a priority. The extension means travellers with bookings on the affected routes may need to change their plans, select an alternative travel date or seek a refund.
The airlines have also announced flexibility for eligible passengers. Confirmed bookings issued on or before October 15, with travel dates between October 9 and October 25, qualify for a one-time complimentary date change. The revised journey can be scheduled up to November 10, subject to the applicable conditions.
Passengers who do not wish to travel on their original route at a later date may also explore rebooking from another station in the Gulf Cooperation Council region served by the respective airline. This option depends on route availability and confirmation from the airline.
Editorial Analysis
Why This Matters
The extension affects passengers travelling between India and important Saudi Arabian destinations for work, business, religious visits and family commitments. A flight cancellation can also disrupt connecting journeys and other bookings. Clear information about eligibility, revised travel dates and refunds can help passengers make decisions before incurring additional costs. The practical priority is to confirm the status of the specific flight and obtain the airline's instructions rather than assume that the previous schedule remains valid. For travellers with urgent plans, an alternative route may be useful, but it should be confirmed before making separate travel or accommodation arrangements.
