Public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will remain open and operate normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026, the Ministry of Finance has said.
The decision comes ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to September 30. The strike period follows the September 26 weekend holiday, creating the possibility of an extended disruption to physical banking services.

Editorial Analysis
Why This Matters
The proposed strike could affect branch-based banking services during the September 28–30 period, particularly because September 30 is also the half-yearly closing date for banks. Opening branches on September 27 provides customers with an additional opportunity to complete time-sensitive banking work before the proposed strike. Digital banking and other services may continue according to individual bank arrangements, but customers with branch-dependent requirements may want to plan ahead.
