External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar joined African Heads of Mission and members of the diplomatic community to celebrate Africa Day 2026 in New Delhi, reaffirming India's commitment to expanding its strategic partnership with the African continent.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jaishankar said India and Africa share deep historical ties, cultural connections and a common legacy of fighting colonialism. He noted that bilateral engagement has expanded significantly in recent years through increased high-level exchanges and a wider diplomatic presence.
The External Affairs Minister highlighted cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, digital technology, defence training, capacity building, maritime security and peacekeeping.
He also underlined India's commitment to the Global South, pointing to the inclusion of the African Union (AU) as a permanent member of the G20 during India's presidency as a major milestone in strengthening Africa's global representation.
