Launched on February 13, 2024, with a total outlay of ₹75,021 crore, the scheme aims to promote clean energy adoption by encouraging households to install rooftop solar systems with financial assistance provided through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.
According to official figures, more than 41.76 lakh rooftop solar systems have already been installed under the programme, adding nearly 14,838 megawatts (14.8 GW) of decentralised solar generation capacity across the country.
The government has so far transferred over ₹28,024 crore directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries as subsidy support, making the installation process easier and more transparent.

Installation speed has increased substantially over the past nine months. Daily installations have risen from 5,038 systems per day in October 2025 to nearly 16,328 installations per day in July 2026, representing a 3.2-fold increase.
July 2026 alone recorded 5.06 lakh new beneficiary households, the highest monthly addition since the launch of the scheme.
The programme has also generated employment opportunities across the renewable energy sector. More than 34,219 vendors have registered under the scheme, of which 29,469 are currently active. Additionally, over 2.32 lakh individuals have received training through capacity-building initiatives supporting the rooftop solar ecosystem.
Officials said the scheme operates through a 100% digital, end-to-end online process, allowing consumers to complete applications, approvals and subsidy disbursals without physical paperwork or office visits.
