Editorial Analysis
Why This Matters
The funding is expected to strengthen the financial sustainability of Mizoram's universal healthcare programme. The Healthcare Corpus Fund will support the scheme's financial requirements and help the state improve access to affordable healthcare services.
The department also raised the matter with officials of the Department of Economic Affairs and the ADB during a Tripartite Review meeting held in Chandigarh earlier this month.
The loan agreement for the programme was signed on January 23, 2026. According to ADB project records, April 2, 2026, was designated as the project's effective date.
The total ADB financing commitment for the programme is US$108 million. The initiative aims to strengthen Mizoram's public healthcare system, improve healthcare service delivery and expand access to affordable and quality medical services through MUHCS.
